New 'Sesame Street' Show In Arabic Aims To Assist Refugee Kids

"Sesame Street" and the International Rescue Committee have collaborated in efforts to help Syrian refugee children. A new program called "Ahlan Simsim" is set to air in February 2020.

Sesame Workshop and The International Rescue Committee (IRC) have joined together to assist Syrian refugee children, through educational learning programs, including the launch of a new "Sesame Street" show in Arabic.

Sesame Workshop - the nonprofit, educational organisation behind Sesame Street - along with IRC, aim to give kids in Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, and Iraq, an opportunity to grow and learn through a new local, Arabic-language version of Sesame Street.

The partners said in a statement they hope the show, titled Ahlan Simsim, which translates into Welcome Sesame, would help "heal the scars of war".
